For a future with green gas
We are committed to a future with green gas. With our gas infrastructure, we are the ideal partner for shaping and implementing a successful Energiewende.
Approval for core network: Green light for Europe’s largest hydrogen network
A milestone for the energy transition: The Federal Network Agency approved the construction of a nationwide hydrogen core network on 22 October 2024. With an investment volume of 18.9 billion euros, Europe´s largest hydrogen network will be created by 2032, thus making it a significant pillar in the climate-neutral energy system of the future.
Approximately 60 % of this network, which stretches 9,040 kilometres, is created by repurposing existing gas pipelines. 40 % of the pipelines will be new builds. The core network will connect important industrial areas, ports and energy producing sites, facilitating a close connection with our European neighbours. Besides the 15 transmission system operators, there are an additional 10 distribution system operators involved.
Following the approval of the German hydrogen core network, bayernets will work together with Bavarian gas grid operators on a vision to develop a hydrogen infrastructure in Bavaria.
For more information, please see FNB Gas (in German) and our press release on our media page (in German).
With our connection to the international transmission system, we at bayernets secure the supply of gas beyond national borders, now and in the future.
How we develop our network
Together with the other German transmission system operators, bayernets submits an integrated plan for network development every two years. The Network Development Plan Gas (NDP Gas) includes all effective measures for optimising, strengthening and developing the gas transmission system in line with changing demand, thereby guaranteeing security of supply.
