Hydrogen for Bavaria
By participating in specific projects, we are intensively working on connecting hydrogen production and consumption and are thus making a significant contribution to ramping up the hydrogen economy in Bavaria. Using the existing gas infrastructure for transporting hydrogen is a safe, secure and economically efficient solution.
We have been further developing the HyPipe Bavaria project idea based on hydrogen projects reported within the scope of the WEB market survey and development prospects provided by the hydrogen backbone. HyPipe Bavaria stands for our joint activities in the area of pipeline-based hydrogen transport and hydrogen projects together with our partners in Bavaria.
Our goals related to our HyPipe Bavaria activities:
- to develop prospects for supplying hydrogen to industrial sites in the Ingolstadt and Burghausen regions
- to participate in hydrogen projects run by distribution system operators and companies
- to develop a pipeline-based hydrogen transport grid in Bavaria

We are convinced that pipeline-based hydrogen transport will play an integral part in the success of the energy transition and will thus ultimately serve our common goal to protect the climate.

Together with gas storage facilities, the internationally connected gas infrastructure is an important pillar in the security of supply for the German energy system. The increasing use of the gas infrastructure to transport hydrogen will pave the way for secure and economically efficient energy supply, also in the future. A corresponding regulatory and network planning framework must be created, in particular with the following prerequisites:
- Common regulation and financing of hydrogen and gas networks
- Integrated planning of hydrogen and gas infrastructures
