Hydrogen networks in Bavaria
We are prepared for the development of a pipeline-based hydrogen infrastructure and would like to show you prospects for a Bavarian hydrogen transport network. The repurposing of existing gas transmission pipelines will make it possible to transport large volumes of hydrogen over long distances economically.
Connecting producers and consumers will facilitate the development of a hydrogen infrastructure in Bavaria in the near future. Based on our current knowledge regarding the European Hydrogen Backbone Bavaria can be connected to a European hydrogen transport infrastructure as early as 2030. Hydrogen clusters, e.g. in Burghausen or Ingolstadt, could therefore be implemented in the near future and subsequently connected to the European Hydrogen Backbone.
With the hydrogen network map for southern Bavaria, we wish to show you the opportunities for a potential hydrogen transport infrastructure in our network area. This infrastructure is largely based on existing gas transmission pipelines.
When and to what extent the repurposing of gas transmission pipelines for hydrogen can occur depends on various factors:
- Technical, regulatory and economic framework conditions
- Development of future H2 sources and H2 sinks
- Material tests of the existing gas transmission pipelines
- Connection of the H2 network in Bavaria with prospective H2 networks in Northern Germany and Austria
