Purging of the Central European Line at the Mailing Station

Munich, 30 September 2015. - The transmission system operator bayernets GmbH will purge the Central European Line at Mailing Station on Tuesday, 6 October 2015. Prior to this process, the pressure in the pipeline will be dramatically reduced so that only the gas residues will be purged. This process will be performed during the day and it is expected to take several hours to complete.

In the course of this purging process, there will be an increase in the noise levels around the station, which will be mitigated by means of sound absorbers. The purging process serves to reduce pressure in the system in preparation for maintenance work planned between the two stations at Vohburg and Mailing. In order to minimise the pressure in the pipeline before the purging process, the gas will be initially consumed in the two connected refineries until the lowest possible pressure is reached and subsequently flared in the Gunvor Refinery Ingolstadt in Kösching under controlled conditions on this day.

In the pipeline section between the stations Vohburg and Mailing, the refineries in Kösching and Vohburg are supplied with natural gas by the Central European Line. Supply to the refinery in Kösching will be guaranteed through truck deliveries of LNG during the time of the purging and maintenance works. The refinery in Vohburg can be supplied via the adjacent pipeline of Open Grid Europe GmbH and the gas pressure regulating system Irsching belonging to bayernets.
