Natural Gas TSOs Publish Scenario Framework for Network Development Plan

The ruling passed on the energy turnaround:

  • in particular the gradual phasing out of nuclear energy by 2022, combined with the ambitious aim to develop renewable energy

  • is unthinkable without a parallel expansion of German energy networks. The twelve German natural gas TSOs with their well-developed and safe natural gas infrastructure make a significant contribution to the security of energy supply.

In order to assess natural gas shipping capacities needed in the future, the twelve TSOs will develop on an annual basis a Network Development Plan in close cooperation with the Federal Network Agency. The first such plan will be published on 1 April 2012. The drawing up of the Network Development Plan is based on the Scenario Framework which was written by the company Prognos AG on behalf of the German TSOs. The present study, which has been published on a custom-made website www.netzentwicklungsplan-gas.de by the twelve German TSOs will form the basis and framework for modelling gas flows in the German gas grid for the next 10 years. Based on these calculations, the TSOs and the Federal Network Agency will create together the Network Development Plan 2013 to 2022 for the German gas transmission network.

Interested market participants are invited to comment on the assumptions made in the Scenario Framework. Written statements can be submitted including information on the organisation, function and contact details by email by 09.09.2011 to stellungnahme@netzentwicklungsplan-gas.de. Submitted statements will be subsequently sent to the Federal Network Agency according to § 15a of the Energy Industry Act (German: EnWG) for evaluation of the Scenario Framework.

In addition to the opportunity to submit a written comment, a workshop on the Scenario Framework will be held in Berlin on 31.08.2011. A binding registration for the workshop, in which the Scenario Framework will be explained and discussed, can be found on the website
www.netzentwicklungsplan-gas.de.
