NDP Gas 2014 addresses declining L-gas production
Some €2.8bn to be invested in gas grids by 2024

Berlin, Jan. 28, 2015. Germany`s NDP Gas for 2014 released by the German Gas-TSOs puts an emphasis on demand-oriented extensions and upgrades of the national gas infrastructure. The investment volume amounts to approx. €2.8bn by the year 2024. After consulting market participants such as gas brokers, power station and storage operators, 51 projects were confirmed by the German national regulatory authority (BNetzA). Compressor capacity will be increased by a total of 343 MW. In addition, another 748 km of high-pressure pipelines will be built.
A major challenge over the next few years will be a significant reduction of Dutch L-gas import volumes as well as domestic L-gas production. As part of the NDP Gas 2014 the TSOs have proposed an H-gas infrastructure development which compensates for declining L-gas volumes. At the same time, a detailed timetable for converting regions currently supplied with L-gas to H-gas is included.
In the words of Inga Posch, managing director of the association of German Gas TSOs (FNB Gas), “this third nationwide NDP is a landmark in ensuring the security of supply and an important document aimed at making long-term supplies in Germany and Europe reliable at a time of energy market transition” (Energiewende).
