The Munich transmission system operator bayernets GmbH will run its systems on green electricity from 2021. The systems that operate on electricity include a total of four compressor units at the Haiming (in the Altötting district) and Wertingen sites (in the district of Dillingen an der Donau), a biogas feed-in plant in Mammendorf (Fürstenfeldbruck district ) along with over 60 gas pressure regulating and metering systems. Up to 20 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity are required annually to operate the systems.
“It is important to our company that supplying our systems with green electricity contributes both to climate protection and to implementing the energy transition”, explains Dr. Matthias Jenn, Managing Director of bayernets GmbH. With a network length of approximately 1,660 km and an average pipeline diameter of DN 550, bayernets is one of the large tranmission system operators in Germany.
As a transmission system operator, bayernets is responsible for its own gas transmission pipeline in Bavaria and offers its customers the highest level of supply security and quality. At the same time, bayernets makes a considerable contribution to optimising the transmission of gas in Southern Germany and bordering countries. The integrity of the transmission system is based on three factors: trouble-free operation, optimisation that is aligned with demand and sustainable network development.
For the energy transition: bayernets will use green electricity to operate its systems from 2021
